Tears February 11, 2011

“Tears”

Adapted from “Devotions” by Charles R. Swindoll

When words fail, tears flow.

Tears have a language all their own, a tongue which needs no interpreter. In some mysterious ways, our complex inner-communication system knows when to admit its verbal limitations….and the tears come.

Eyes flashing and sparkling only moments before become flooded from a secret reservoir. We try in vain to restrain the flow, but even strong men falter.

Tears are not self-conscious. They can spring upon us when we are speaking in public, or standing beside others who look to us for strength. Most often they appear when our soul is overwhelmed with feelings words cannot describe.

Our tears may flow during the singing of a great majestic hymn, or when we are alone, lost in some vivid memory or wrestling in prayer.

Did you know God takes special notice of those tears of yours? Psalm 56:8 tells He puts them in His bottle and enters them into the record He keeps on our lives. “Thou tellest my wanderings: put Thou my tears into Thy bottle: are they not in Thy book?” (Psalm 56:8 KJV)

David said, “The Lord has heard the voice of my weeping”

A teardrop on earth summons the King of Heaven. Rather than being ashamed or disappointed, the Lord takes note of our inner friction when hard times are oiled by tears. He turns these situations into moments of tenderness; He never forgets those crises in our lives where tears were shed.

One of the great drawbacks of our cold, sophisticated society is its reluctance to show tears. For some strange reason, men feel tears are a sign of weakness….and many an adult feels to cry is to be immature. How silly! How unfortunate! The consequence is we place a watchdog named “restraint” before our hearts. This animal is trained to bark, snap and scare away any unexpected quest who seeks entrance.

The ultimate result is a well-guarded, highly respectable, uninvolved heart surrounded by heavy bars of confinement. Such a structure resembles a prison more than a home where the tender Spirit of Christ resides.

Jeremiah lived in no such dwelling. His transparent tent was so tender and sensitive he could not preach a sermon without the interruption of tears. “The weeping prophet” became his nickname and even though he did not always have the words to describe his feelings, he was never at a loss to communicate his convictions. You could always count on Jeremiah to bury his head in his hands and sob aloud.

Strange that this man was selected by God to be His personal spokesman at the most critical time in Israel’s history; seems like an unlikely choice. Unless you value tears as God does. I wonder how many tears bottles in heaven are marked with Jeremiah’s name. I wonder how many of them bear your initials, or mine. He has mine in gallon jars!! If you find yourself crying this week, don’t try to hide the tears from those around you.

Tears are beautiful to God! And to God’s people.

Third Day Video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aley9_d8vrE

Born Again by Third Day

My sister in Christ and fellow Sonrise writer member, Cheryl, has a picture of herself coming up out of the water while being baptised. The look of joy, pure joy, reflects the light of Jesus in her face. I love looking at the picture. I can only imagine a picture of myself being baptised. It is one in my mind’s eye.

At the age of twelve I knew Jesus. I actually do not ever remember not knowing Him. In my baby book my momma wrote, “Angela loves to hear stories about Jesus”. How did she know that? Because she read them to me, told them to me, showed me pictures of Jesus and how He loved the little children. As much as I loved the stories of Him then I so much more love them now.

It is amazing how I can read a parable I have known all my life and see something new and different each and every time. It is like God allows my mind to expand, taking in more of Him, each time. Scripture that applied to me at the age of twelve apply to me now at the age of fifty.

This video from Third Day inspired my heart. Seeing the look on the faces of those baptised, washed in the blood of the Lamb of God, I see joy. Glorious joy!! All the gifts of the spirit flood their souls and shine from their faces. Peace, Joy, and love wash over them in a way unlike any other. Each one walking away a new creation, a child of God, born again to begin the journey with Jesus.

Along this journey there are time when we begin to feel dry, all we have to do is go back to the living water!! Go back to where we started and be refreshed.

I hope this video and the words to this amazing song will permeate your soul to act. To be doers of the Word. your life will never be the same. There is Power in the Blood of Jesus. During this season of Lent, leading up to Easter, think on the life of Jesus and what He and only He could do for you. Thank Him, Praise Him and most of all love Him.

Seasons of Hope February 18, 2010

Seasons of Hope

By Angela Posey-Arnold

“And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years” (Genesis 1:14 NIV)

Oh, the beauty of the stars, the sunrises and sunsets. As long as earth remains we can predict the sun rising and setting and the seasons changing. Even in the midst of uncertainty we always have the assurance, the blessed assurance, of night turning into day and seasons to come and go. Winter comes but it doesn’t last forever, giving us the hope of the spring to come. The heat of summer comes but the cool crisp fall evenings are just ahead.

God set nature in motion to act in predictable ways. We can plan for the future and know planting and harvesting will remain a reality. These constant factors of creation remain in God’s Hand as a promise of offering us hope.

After the flood God promised Noah, “Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.

”As long as the earth endures,
       seedtime and harvest,
       cold and heat,
       summer and winter,
       day and night
       will never cease.”(Genesis 8:21-22 NIV)

Those who trust in God know He never breaks a promise. In this we find hope and assurance. Even with so many proclaiming global warming, fear and looming doom, Christians find peace in knowing God established the seasons and He is in control of them.

Possibly many could stop global whining and trust in the Creator who never breaks a promise. Just as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow, Jesus will return. Oh, the beauty of the eastern sky in expectation of that day.

In the cold dark winter just remember, spring is coming and so is the King of King and Lord of Lords. Of that we are assured, blessedly assured!

God Sent the Angel Gabriel

By Angela Posey-Arnold

“In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her…….” (Luke 1:26-28 NIV)

I watched Mary carefully before appearing. What a lovely young girl going about her daily task, dreaming of her upcoming marriage to Joseph. As my surrounding light began to illuminate the room Mary stopped short of her chore. My angelic brilliance of light swiftly filled the room. Before her I stood a being so astonishing she fell to her knees in awe and bewilderment. I knew my presence and message would be difficult for Mary to absorb. Quietly adorned in this robe of red and gold, all six of my pearly white wings covered the corners of the room. She gazed into my eyes for a brief moment I hoped she would capture the love and protection I brought as an angel of God. My glimpse upon her was a loving embrace. Fully aware I appeared as one who had been in the presence of God Himself, I Gabriel, luminous and radiant with intense greatness and power spoke in a voice calming and assuring. “…Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” (Luke 1:28 NIV)

On hearing the voice of an angel Mary stared into the light, high and lifted up above and around me she gazed at the cherubim guarding the light. At first a reverent fear seemed to grip her. I, Gabriel, sensed her fear and saw her trembling so I spoke softly. Adjusting the tenor and timbre of my vociferous angelic voice, Mary’s face softened and the trembling ceased, love calmed her. I felt love radiating from me to Mary as I continued to explain my presence with her.

“……Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of his father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever; His kingdom will never end.” (Luke 1:30-33 NIV)

Attempting to understand the words and process in her heart and mind Mary appeared confused as if a million questions entered her mind. For what seemed like minutes, sensitive she looked around the room absorbing all she could. In full comprehension the Words came from God to her through this awesome message, all doubt faded from her brow. I could see she didn’t quite understand how this could be. She glanced charily at the brilliance of the light and the magnificence of the loving being as I stood before her. She bowed her head and spoke for the first time in my presence.  Tender in speech she asked me, “How will this be…. since I am a virgin?” (Luke 1:34 NIV)

Positioning my wings I moved closer to Mary gentle with my words I explained how God’s plan would be accomplished through her. My eyes now tender and adoring, my form gracefully stirring almost musically I responded. “…The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God.” (Luke 1 35-37 NIV)

This seemed to solve the question in Mary’s heart. The presence of love became more intense in the room. The light brighter, more brilliant, the atmosphere filled the room with a calm stillness and serenity. Inexplicable realization of The Messiah’s birth suddenly became the most real occurrence of anything Mary or I had ever experienced.

The guardian cherubim of the light swirled ever so swift as the light and I set into upward motion. Mary’s immediate response, without hesitation or question, satisfied me as the mission was complete.  I smiled upon her, imparting to her the security and protection of God. Chosen and favored by God Almighty to be the mother of the Messiah she exclaimed, “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it be to me as you have said.” (Luke 1:38 NIV)

Swift and fleeting I left her and returned to the heavenlies. I visited often in the next few days although not visible to Mary. I think she felt my presence. For many days she pondered the experience and every word God sent me to deliver to her. Mary remembering every facial expression on my face, my eyes, my hands and my movements and most of all my words filled her waking hours. I, Gabriel, in all the glory and light surrounding me brought a message from God to Mary that would save the world! The importance and significance of the message and the mission I came to carry out in perfect illustration by my countenance of protector and guide. Tender yet magnificent, eloquent though mighty, I delivered the message from God, the ‘Message of the Ages’ to Mary, the mother of Jesus, the Savior of all mankind.

Jesus! The Messiah is coming. Hope for all mankind is to be born. Glory to God in the Highest!!

Why Hannukah? December 11, 2009

As a Christian it is interesting for me to learn the traditions and celebrations of the Jewish people. Discovering what Hannukah is and why Jews celebrate this occasion has been an interesting batch of research. Maybe it interest you as well. The Messianic Jews have all the fun!! They celebrate Jewish and Christian Holy Days. Watching them dance is proof enough of their incredible joy–and mine.

Happy Hannukah

FEAST OF DEDICATION (“CHANUKAH”)

Date in Hebrew calendar:  25th of Kislev to 2nd of Tevet (November–December ).

Scriptural references: Daniel 8:22-25, 11:20-45; John 10:22-42.

“Chanukah” (the word means “dedication” in Hebrew) is a celebration of God’s faithfulness and deliverance.  The events it celebrates took place during the inter-testamental period, in approximately 165 B.C.

Over 150 years earlier, Alexander the Great had conquered the entire ancient world of the Eastern Mediterranean.  Upon his early death, four of his generals divided up his empire.  The area of Judea eventually came under the control of Antiochus IV “Epiphanes.”

Antiochus tried to force the Jews to accept Greek culture, even defiling their temple by sacrificing a pig on the altar and erecting a statue of Zeus in the Holy of Holies! This was the first “Abomination of desolation” and was prophesied by Daniel (11:31-32).

Finally, the Jews revolted.  Although greatly outnumbered and overpowered, they fought a courageous guerrilla war and drove out the Greeks in 165 B.C., re-entering the city and the temple.

There was only enough of the special oil burned in the temple menorah to last one day, and it would take 8 days to make more.  They lit the menorah anyway, and the oil miraculously burned for 8 days while more was being prepared.

Thus began the Feast of Dedication to celebrate this miracle, their great deliverance from oppressors and the dedication of the newly cleansed temple.

Yeshua went to Jerusalem for the Feast of Dedication, and while in the temple area He proclaimed His divinity-”I and the Father are one” (John 10:30).

Today Chanukah is celebrated with a 9-branched candelabra.  Eight of them recall the eight days the oil miraculously burned, while the 9th is the “Servant” candle used to light the others.  Each evening during the eight day feast, more of the eight candles are lit-one the first night, two the second, etc. until all eight, plus the servant, are brightly burning in the homes of all Jews on the last night.  It is also called the “Festival of Lights,” and is often accompanied by the exchange of gifts.

Chanukah celebrates one of many deliverances of the Jewish people from those who would try, again and again, to destroy God’s Covenant people.  In recent history we have two horrible examples of this-the pogroms in Russia, and the Holocaust.  Yet the Lord’s people are alive today, and back in their own Land against unbelievable odds.

But the enemy has not given up, and he is trying and will try to destroy them again.  Pray for God to deliver His people again, and to breathe His Spirit into their revived bodies (Ezekiel 37:14), fully restoring them to Himself.

Thanks to google, email and research–I am really glad I learned–I am glad I wanted to learn.

God Bless You this Holy Day season and all year!!!

A Letter to You from Your Guardian Angel July 23, 2009

A Love Letter

By Angela Posey-Arnold

Greetings to you, my charge, in the name of The Lord our God and Creator Who lovingly assigned me to you. There are just a few things we need to clear up. I suppose it is odd for you to get a letter from me, your Guardian Angel, but I can’t wait any longer to serve this message to you.

I bring glorious good tidings of great joy. It is in my job description. I know you can’t see me but you know I am there. Remember just last week you felt my presence? Yes, that was me, sent by God to comfort and protect you. I am always with you. Possibly you know my work.

I want you to know that I am not in the little golden pin you see on lapels throughout your culture. I am surely not a trumpet toting porcelain figurine on the coffee table.

I am a messenger and a protector for you. Everything I do is by command of God. I am very old according to your standards and I have been there with you through every trail and every joy. I was there to hear your borning cry and I will be there the day you leave earth. I am fascinated with you.

Be confident of the daily care and protection I was created for. You are the reason God sent me. But, make no mistake about it; God is the One worthy of worship. It makes me very uncomfortable when humans set us angels higher than we should be. Your worship and all your love must remain with God lest you be deceived.

Sometimes I ponder as you go about your daily business if you really know me or what it is you think of me. So many years have rolled by and I am concerned that you truly must understand who I am and why God created me. I want you to know God’s truth about angels. God is sovereign, only Him do we worship. You worship Him and I worship Him. I want you to know me because I will be a part of your eternal environment.

I am eternal and I am always pointing you in the right direction-toward God. Remember how we sang when Jesus was born. We were pointing you to Him then.

As an angel I already know the fullness of heaven. Someday, my beloved, you will experience it with me. Angels do God’s perfect will and we do so gladly. You can find everything you need to know about me in God’s Holy Word. Don’t pray to me, pray to Him. And for heaven’s sake don’t set me up as an idol. Talk about uncomfortable—that really gets under my wings. I am just a ministering spirit sent to serve the redeemed.

Some humans see us from time to time and some do not. As wonderful as it would be to be visible in your presence God has given you something better. He has given you the greatest gift of all. His absolute presence through His Holy Spirit.

I am far more involved in your world than you realize. That is why I am writing this letter. I want you to know me and the amazing things God’s Word tells you about me and my kind. Reading and meditating on His Word will bring you closer to Him, and that is what I want for you. His Word has over 300 references to my kind. We know He loves us and created us for a very special purpose.

When you die you will not be an angel. You will still be the redeemed. You will have songs to sing that we can’t sing, but we rejoice with you. Some humans may criticize you for believing in me, but don’t let that worry you one bit. You are in better company than they are.

Oh, and don’t be like those Sadducees. They really were ‘sad you see’. We all know what happened to them and they did not believe in us. We watched as the apostles were brought before the no-such-thing-as-angels crowd. Those Sadducees spurned angels; they also dropped from history within a generation. The imprisoned apostles simply obeyed God’s message delivered by none other than yours truly. They changed history’s course forever.

I love Matthew 25:31 “when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him,” Actually, I can’t wait for this day and we are in constant preparation. You should be too.

In closing, my beloved, remember to worship and pray to God. Only the Creator is worthy of worship, not the created. Prepare for the coming again of your Savior Jesus Christ and listen to the Holy Spirit within you. I will be with you. I think you are wonderful.

Angel kisses from heaven,

Your Guardian Angel

The Hole in Your Soul June 24, 2009

Faith Fills the Hole in Our Soul

Hebrews 11:1 KJV Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1 KJV).

Have you ever read this chapter of Hebrews? I counted the word faith 24 times in this one chapter. Paul illustrates historical examples of how faith worked in the lives of Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sara, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, and Moses. Faith brought down the walls of Jericho and closed the mouths of lions. Faith in Jehovah God can set you free. Faith can make you whole.

Faith works the same way today as it did in the days of Daniel. Can you imagine the faith of Shadrach, Meschak and Abednego? Three Hebrew children, who would not worship the King but held tight to their devotion to Jehovah, were cast into a fiery furnace. They were not burned. When we pray, we are demonstrating faith that God is there and that He hears our prayers.

Faith is the assurance of things hoped for. Without faith what hope is there? Hope is the trust that God indeed loves us and answers our prayers. Without hope there is only doubt, fear and despondency. Consider those who are lost and outside of God’s protection. It is a dismal consideration. Without Jesus Christ there is only hopelessness. Some may put their trust and hope in other people or in money but a hope placed in these can only bring disappointment and grief. Men may disappoint and desert you, but God never will. He is always there. When we need Him He carries us when we can’t even walk. Sometimes, the things of this life are overwhelming. Without hope, faith and trust in Him, how can we possibly hope?

Faith is the knowledge that life on earth is not all there is. Faith is in knowing that beyond this life we have life eternal with God. I know people who believe that this life is all there is, that when we die, that is just the end. How sad it would be to go through everyday thinking that all we had to hope for is nothing. As Christians we have faith that one day we will be in heaven and abide with Him. Jesus is the only way to heaven. Do not be deceived. There is one and only one way to heaven and it is through Jesus Christ. John 3:16 is all you have to know to be saved. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son and whosoever BELIEVES in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

In this life on earth we have two choices. We can believe and be saved or we can reject Jesus and go to hell. It is that simple.

To have faith there must be belief. Unbelievers have no hope. Faith is so simple. God made His gospel so simple even little children can understand it. It doesn’t take great intellect to understand that God made us. He loves us and He wants to have a relationship with us. Some scholars have tried to disprove God’s Word. They have taken away their own hope. They try to reason too much about this simple story. By picking apart the Word of God they have made it hard. The brain God gave them has gotten in the way of being able to believe.

Humility and faith go hand in hand. There are times when nonbelievers think they have it all figured out and they feel they have out smarted God. This is a major stumbling block for them to believe. It blinds them to the simple faith that passes all understanding. We as humans are not meant to know everything. If God wanted us to know everything now He would have told us in His Word. What He did tell us is He loved us so much He sent His only Son to die for us. No one can disprove this no matter how hard they try.

All human beings have a big hole in their soul. People try to fill this hole with many things. Money, prestige, fame, fortune, drugs, alcohol, sex but they will always come up empty. The hole will still be there. The only thing that fits in the hole is God and his love for us.

Faith fills up the hole and makes us whole. Trying to fill this hole in our soul with anything but God is like trying to put a square peg into a round hole. Nothing will fit. Nothing will fill the hole except for the power and love of God. He created us with the hole in our soul. He created us to only be completely at peace when we fill the hole with His love.

What we know as Christians is we have the faith one great day every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Now there is something you can put your faith in. There is the hope that fills the hole in the soul. There is the answer.

Dear Lord Help us to demonstrate our faith in You so that others may believe. Help us to help the lost fill the holes in their souls with Your love. Thank you for Your Word and Your peace. We praise You and love you, let Your light so shine that others may see You in us everyday. In Your Holy Name I pray, Amen.

How do you fill the hole in your soul?
Does your faith shine so that others may see something in you that they desire?
How can we reach those who need Jesus the most?

God’s Eyes

By Angela Posey-Arnold

The eyes of God are firmly set
To see the things of earth
Unknown to me how He can get
So much without a search.

I do not know how He can see
All things, all hearts and knows
The sadness, pain and sorrow
What I do know is He does.

His eyes are ever seeing
The sad, the bad and pain too
And always in His Being
Is love for me and you.

He knows the burdens are heavy
He sees, He feels, He moves
To show us how His love responds
When we can’t see, we lose.

Beyond the pain and heart ache
God of Heaven wants us to know
He sees, He cares for our sake
He wants our faith to show.

Hold on to your faith, the truth, and the life
Think on those things of Him
Replace the thoughts of sadness and strife
With thought of pure grace given.

He lives in your heart forever now
Nothing can separate the bond
Seek Him, find Him, while here below
Heaven’s home is where we belong.

The thoughts of Him seeking discovers
More of Him closer in time
To know His eyes look over
The earth just for me and for mine.

You seek what you need, you find what you seek
Seeks His eyes and His glow
In all the strength of the weak
Renew your mind and His love you will know.
There is no time for sorrow and woe
Those are the devil’s tools
God loves you, hears you, strengthens too
Spend your life contented by beautiful pools.

Don’t let bad thoughts grow
Cry and He will dry your tears
So He can just bless you again, you know
He always sees, He always cares.

In any circumstance that hits
There are three ways it will be
As His child He will deliver you from it
Or through it you and He will see.

Heaven is the destination
This earth is not our home
The third way He delivers
Is to Jesus’ arms at the Throne.

So please don’t be sad, God never lies
He never leaves you there
I don’t know how He sees me
But I’m so thankful for His eyes.

Searching for Laminin April 2, 2009

I received an interesting email today, with no author attached. This seems to leave me free to post to my blog sites.

As a daughter of God, a whosoever, a believer of all things Godly, and a lover of Jesus Christ, I figure this seemingly new “breakthrough” in science will not make Fox news tonight. The email caused great joy in my heart but no big surprise as I am familiar with the ways and thoughts of God. I don’t understand them all but just by reading His Word and living a Christian life I know how incredibly awesome He is. Because of my relationship with Him I know that I know that I know–He is the One and Only. This new “science” just thrilled me. I love it when science has no other choice than to prove God. It blesses my soul.

Whatever your belief, your religion, your relationship, I think you may find this interesting and maybe worth some further research. Go ahead–google it, watch the video, go to snoopy snopes.com, see what you find. I find it awesome!! I thank my God Jehovah for again showing us His way, His truth and His plan. I believe He is smiling today as this encircles the internet and causes nonbelievers to pull their hair out–and causes believers to shine brighter, smile bigger, hope fulfilled again.

I will post here the email I received. This is pretty incredible – the video he speaks of is on the snopes.com website or on YouTube.

The Glue That Holds us Together

You medical, and non-medical, folks – if you haven’t already seen this, you will love it!  This is a pretty neat story and an interesting thing that few of us know. It’s brief, so please read. (FROM A DOCTOR)

A couple of days ago I was running (I use that term very loosely) on my treadmill, watching a DVD sermon by Louie Giglio… And I was BLOWN AWAY! I want to share what I learned…. But I fear not being able to convey it as well as I want. I will share anyway.

He (Louie) was talking about how inconceivably BIG our God is… How He spoke the universe into being… How He breathes stars out of His mouth that are huge raging balls of fire.. . Etc. Etc. Then He went on to speak of how this star-breathing, universe creating God ALSO knitted our human bodies together with amazing detail and wonder. At this point I am LOVING it (fascinating from a medical standpoint, you know.) …. And I was remembering how I was constantly amazed during medical school as I learned more and more about God’s handiwork. I remember so many times thinking…. ‘How can ANYONE deny that a Creator did all of this???’

Louie went on to talk about how we can trust that the God who created all this, also has the power to hold it all together when things seem to be falling apart…how our loving Creator is also our sustainer.  And then I lost my breath. And it wasn’t because I was running my treadmill, either!!!

It was because he started talking about laminin. I knew about laminin. Here is how Wikipedia describes them: ‘Laminins are a family of proteins that are an integral part of the structural scaffolding of basement membranes in almost every animal tissue.’ You see…. Laminins are what hold us together…. LITERALLY. They are cell adhesion molecules. They are what holds one cell of our bodies to the next cell. Without them, we would literally fall apart.

And I knew all this already. But what I didn’t know is what they LOOKED LIKE.  But now I do. And I have thought about it a thousand times since (already)…. Here is what the structure of laminin looks like… AND THIS IS NOT a ‘Christian portrayal’ of it…. If you look up laminin in any scientific/medical piece of literature, this is what you will see…

Cell Structure Laminin Cross

Cell Structure Laminin Cross

Now tell me that our God is not the coolest!!! Amazing.

The glue that holds us together…. ALL of us…. Is in the shape of the cross.

Immediately Colossians 1:15-17 comes to mind.  ‘He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. > For by Him all things were created; things in heaven and on earth, visible > And invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; > All things were created by Him and for Him. > He is before all things, and in Him > All things HOLD TOGETHER. ‘ > Colossians 1:15-17 >

Call me crazy. I just think that is very, very, very cool. Thousands of years before the world knew anything about laminin,  Paul penned those words. And now we see that from a very LITERAL standpoint, we are held together… One cell to another… By the cross.

You would never in a quadrillion years convince me that is anything  other than the mark of a Creator Who knew EXACTLY what laminin  ‘glue’ would look like long before Adam breathed his first breath!!

Sweet Surprises and Little Pecan Pies February 5, 2009

This devotional is the last in the Lenten Book series. It has certainly been a joy and blessing for me to be able to edit testimonies written by my Mother, and two dear dear friends, and last but not least–my brother. Today’s message comes to us from the inspiration of Stan Posey, my brother, and Pastor of New Harmony United Methodist Church.

Sweet Surpise

Read Psalm 119

“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”  Psalm 119:103 (NIV)

Those little pecan pies call to me from the check-out counter at convenience stores.  From my growing up years, I remember them as “Bama” brand pies; it’s hard to find those in north-central Florida.  But a reasonable substitute, homemade by different people, appear late fall in stores. Happily just before Christmas, one of those treats made by “Aaron” jumped into my hand when I stopped for a cup of coffee.

Climbing into my jeep and opening the pie as quickly as possible, I peeled off the plastic wrap and a small Christian tract dropped into my lap. “Aaron’s” had carefully folded the tract underneath the little aluminum pan.  Who knows how many others with a sweet tooth got tapped on the shoulder in the same way?  Aaron’s extra treat was a special blessing, all the sweeter in the surprise.

Aaron’s ministry is a reminder for us. We should always be sharing the Word of God, and always ready to hear it for ourselves in a new way.  The Word of God  refreshes us and strengthens us, with sweetness greater than any other treat – even a little pecan pie.

Lord, remind me my real hunger is for You.  Keep me open to Your Word, and always ready to savor its sweetness. Help us to bodly share Your Word in new and creative ways. In Jesus Name. Amen.
